Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS)
Main_Content
If you own a commercial or multifamily building that is 35,000 square feet or larger in Maryland, you’ll need to take action under the Building Energy Performance Standards, which includes submitting an annual benchmarking report. You may need to make building improvements over time to meet performance standards in the 2030s. For more details, review the
Program Overview.

Buildings That Can Apply for Exemption
If one of the following exemption eligible building types applies to you, submit an exemption form on the
BEPS Portal. (You’ll need to create an account.) If your building is determined exempt from the program, you won’t need to submit a benchmarking report for that building. Read the
instructions for submitting exemption requests (PDF).
