Lead Poisoning Prevention Program

Every Marylander deserves a safe, healthy home — especially our children. That’s why the Maryland Lead Poisoning Prevention Program is here: to protect families and prevent the dangers of lead exposure before they can harm our communities.

We work every day to create safer homes, especially for those most at risk. We offer education and resources to empower families, investigate and fix environmental hazards, and make sure rental properties meet safety standards. We also regulate contractors and ensure that renovations of older buildings are done safely, without putting residents at risk of lead exposure. When needed, we support families with medical help and closely oversee the professionals doing this critical work.

Our mission is simple: protect health, prevent harm, and give every Marylander the chance to grow up and thrive in a lead-free environment.
