Lead paint exposure is a serious health risk—especially for young children and pregnant women. If you believe that lead paint hazards exist in a property, it’s important to report your concerns promptly. We can investigate and take action.  Make sure you contact your landlord first before beginning this process. Complaints filed with us are confidential. If you do not get a response from your landlord, fill out the online form below to submit a complaint. If you have questions, call (410) 537-3825.

When to File a Complaint

You should file a lead paint complaint if:

  • You suspect chipping, peeling, or deteriorating lead-based paint in a home, rental unit, or childcare facility.
  • A child under age 6 or a pregnant person resides or frequently visits the property.
  • A child has been diagnosed with an elevated blood lead level.
  • Lead paint hazards are not being properly addressed during or after renovation, repair, or repainting work.

Anyone—including tenants, parents, healthcare providers, and neighbors—can submit a complaint.

In some cases, we work with local health departments to follow up.

  • You can remain anonymous.
  • Landlords are required by law to follow lead-safe practices.
  • Retaliation for filing a complaint is prohibited.
