The 2024 Maryland Climate Teach-In was a resounding success. More than 70 educators statewide registered to incorporate climate change into their lesson plans. We reached students of all ages through a range of fun, exciting, and engaging activities and lessons. Thank you to each and every participating educator for their dedication to inspiring the next generation of environmental leaders!

The 2024 Teach-In featured spokesperson Mary Kay Connerton, Maryland's Teacher of the Year (2023-24) and Wellness Instructor at Annapolis High School.

She hosted a kick-off event during a wellness class. Students and attendees enjoyed a peaceful mindfulness exercise with recognition that climate change impacts our well-being. Students met with Serena McIlwain, Chair of the Maryland Commission on Climate Change and Maryland’s Secretary of the Environment. A Governor’s Proclamation declaring 2025 Maryland Climate Education Week and a Redbud tree were presented to the school to honor the event. Advika Agarwal, co-founder and co-president of Compostology, gave an inspiring talk about student activism followed by a roundtable discussion with students and members of Bowie State University Green Ambassadors.
