Mitigation Working Group


The Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Working Group (MWG) supports the charge of the Commission to propose regulatory, market-based, and voluntary programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while supporting economic development and job creation. 


Meetings

The GHG MWG members meet virtually monthly, hosted by the Maryland Department of the Environment. Meetings are open to everyone and include time for public comment. Meeting times, dates, and Google Meetings link are listed in the Calendar on the Commission's homepage.

Key Terms

Mitigation of climate change is

human intervention to reduce emissions or enhance the sinks of greenhouse gases.


Mitigation Measures: In climate policy, mitigation measures are technologies, processes or practices that contribute to mitigation, for example, renewable energy (RE) technologies, waste minimization processes and public transport commuting practices. 


Mitigation Option: A technology or practice that reduces GHG emissions or enhances sinks.


Mitigation Scenario: A plausible description of the future that describes how the (studied) system responds to the implementation of mitigation policies and measures.
