Downloading Google Earth to Your Computer
Go to Google Earth Webpage (leaving MDE website): Click on the "Download Google Earth" button and follow the instructions. The end result will be an Icon you can click on to start Google Earth.
Download Two WIP Watershed Map Boundary Files
The following two files are used by Google Earth to show the indicated watershed boundaries. Right-Click each of the following links and save the files to your computer where you can find them. If you are unable to locate the Google Earth Map Files, simply download them again or search your computer for the files with a .kmz extension.
Google Earth and Load the Map Files
Start Google Earth. The Left Column of Google Earth will include a section called "My Places," which is organized like a set of computer directories and files.
Right Click "My Places" and Click "Add" > "Folder" and create a new folder named "Phase II WIP." Then, either "copy & paste" or "drag & drop" the two KMZ files from your computer into the "Phase II WIP" folder.
By Clicking the + sign, you should be able to see the two KMZ files. You can make these watershed boundary files "active" by clicking on the box to their left (they're like check-boxes you can check "on" or "off.")
Test Drive the WIP Map Files
The upper part of the Left Column allows you to "Fly" to a location. Enter a place in Maryland & hit Return or click the magnifying glass. Google Earth will bring up the location you chose (you can zoom in or out once you get to the general location). If you have the watershed boundary files "active," then you should see the watershed boundaries overlaid on Maryland.
Google Earth will also show the County Boundaries. As we develop the Phase II strategies, we will focus on the areas created by the intersection of the county boundaries and Major-Basins (County/Major-Basin polygons), which are easier to see if you turn off the "Segment Sheds."
