Chesapeake Bay Funding: A Commitment to Success

​Chesapeake Bay lies at th​e core of Maryland's culture. The challenges of realizing a healthy and vibrant Bay are significant and complex; however,​ Maryland is committed to success and we are well positioned to achieve our goal. Since 2000, Maryland has spent approximately $14.2 billion on Chesapeake Bay Restoration activities!

As part of Maryland’s annual budget process, the Departments of Agriculture, Budget and Management, Environment, and Natural Resources are required to report to the House and Senate Budget Committees on Chesapeake Bay restoration spending.  This annual report ​includes the following information:

  1. ​State Fiscal Year (SFY) spending on ​Chesapeake Bay Restoration and associated Bay health responses,
  2. Projected spending on Chesapeake Bay Restoration and expected Bay health responses,
  3. A framework of needed regulations, revenues, laws, administrative actions and their resulting impacts on individuals, organizations, governments, and businesses to realize a restored Chesapeake Bay,
  4. An analysis of options for financing Chesapeake Bay Restoration,
  5. An analysis of the cost effectiveness of existing Bay restoration fund sources, and
  6. Updated information on Phase III Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP) implementation and the impacts of Conowingo Dam infill, growth, and climate change will be addressed
Links to these annual reports are included in the box on the right and provide a summary of Maryland's approach and strategy towards realizing a healthy and resilient Chesapeake Bay for future generations.
