Our agency is committed to protecting public health and the environment — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whether it’s a hazardous spill, an unusual smell, or a suspicious discharge, we are always on call to respond to emergencies. This guide will help you quickly determine who to contact, how to report an incident, and what qualifies as an emergency. Anonymous calls are accepted. If there is an immediate danger to life, safety, or property — such as a fire, explosion, medical emergency, or active hazardous material release — call 911 first.

Reporting Environmental Emergencies

Dial 866-633-4686 (866-MDE-GOTO) to report events that pose an immediate threat to health or the environment, including:

Oil or chemical spills
Pollution accidents
Fish kills or algae blooms
Sewer overflows
Radiation incidents

Non-Emergency Environmental Concerns

For non-urgent issues such as:

Trash dumping
Discarded tires
Unusual water discoloration
