19. Sandy Point State Park

Introduction

The Sandy Point State Park project is a 0.25 acre site where a landscape management area was enhanced to become a forested wetland.  This site is located within the West Chesapeake Bay - Severn River area (02-13-10-02) watershed of Anne Arundel County.    


Status

This site has developed into a successful Sweetgum-dominated wetland and is open to the public.  Using the newly developed Mitigation Site Scoring Method, MDE gave this site a score of 87/100. This site provides moderate wetland functions including reducing floodwater flow, recharging the groundwater, recreational/educational qualities, and some wildlife habitat (e.g. box turtles).
