​Maryland Department of the Environment offers training through the Onsite Systems Division. Listed below are some of the courses and their application forms that the Department offers throughout the year. 

• Sand Mound Installer Course - Upon completion of this course and registration requirements an individual will be certified to construct sand mound sewage disposal systems in the State of Maryland for a five year period.  This course is 7.5 hours and covers design, permitting and construction standards. Passing a written examination is required for certification. 
• At-Grade Installer Course - Upon completion of this course and registration requirements an individual will be certified to construct at-grade sewage disposal systems in the State of Maryland for a five year period.  This course is 7.5 hours and covers design, permitting and construction standards. Passing a written examination is required for certification. 
• Sand Mound Installer Refresher Course - This course is 3.5 hours and provides up-to-date information regarding sand mound construction.  No examination is required.  This course is required for contractors who have previously taken and passed the sand mound construction and seek to continue their contractor certification.  
• At-Grade Installer Refresher Course - This course is 3.5 hours and provides up-to-date information regarding at-grade construction.  No examination is required.  This course is required for contractors who have previously taken and passed the at-grade construction and seek to continue their contractor certification.  
• BAT Installer Course - Upon completion of this course and certification by respective technology manufacturers, an individual will be certified to install BAT systems in the State of Maryland. The course is 4 hours in length and requires passing a written examination for certification. Please note local installation requirements may also be necessary.
