The Maryland Department of the Environment, in partnership with the University of Maryland Technology Extension Service, offers free assistance to Maryland companies in developing and implementing Environmental Management Systems (EMSs). The program has helped 44 Maryland companies put in place an EMS based on the global ISO 14001 standard. The next EMS group is forming now and will start May 13, 2009. Businesses participate in four workshops held over a six-month period and complete assignments to implement procedures that assure compliance with environmental laws and regulations and identify and implement cost-saving pollution prevention opportunities. In addition to the workshops, participating companies receive extensive on-site assistance in completing the assignments. “Participating in this program was a wonderful experience,” said Tom Loudon, Vice President of Production, EU Services. “As a result our company will be a better corporate citizen.” For more information on this valuable service, click here. There is no cost to participate.
