BALTIMORE, MD (April 10, 2012) - The Maryland Green Registry is now accepting applications for the 2012 annual Maryland Green Registry Leadership Awards. Interested organizations should submit a statement highlighting one or more of the environmental projects or practices described in their online member profile and the results the project achieved. The Registry is a free program that assists businesses and other organizations by promoting and recognizing their sustainable practices. Collectively, Registry members have saved over $65 million annually through their sustainable practices.  

The awards are marked annually with an evening event gathering the winners, nominees and Registry members.  This year, Lieutenant Governor Anthony G. Brown will attend the June 5 event and deliver welcoming remarks.

The Maryland Green Registry is a part of Smart, Green & Growing, an initiative introduced by Governor Martin O’Malley in October 2008, to foster a smarter, greener, more sustainable future for Maryland families. The initiative brings together state agencies, local governments, businesses and citizens to revitalize communities, improve transit, create green jobs, address climate change, conserve energy, preserve land and restore the Chesapeake Bay.

Past Leadership Awards have gone to British American Auto Care, Inc., CSX, E-Structors, GM Baltimore Transmission Plant, NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, National Aquarium, St. Mary’s County Public Schools, St. Mary's College of Maryland, Union Hospital of Cecil County, and University of Maryland, College Park.

  • Maryland Green Registry is now accepting applications for its annual Leadership Awards. Applications will be accepted through Monday, April 30, 2012.
  • Applicants must be members of the Maryland Green Registry. To join the free program, Maryland organizations should visit the Maryland Green Registry website and complete a best practices profile.
  • Maryland Green Registry Leadership Award winners represent a variety of facility types and sizes, but all have several key factors in common that contribute to their success:  an organization-wide commitment to environmental performance, a green team that meets on a regular basis, annual environmental goals and measurement of results.
  • The 2012 Maryland Green Registry Leadership Award winners will be announced at the annual awards and membership event on June 5, 2012, 5:30 – 8:00 p.m., at the Robinson Nature Center in Columbia, Maryland.
