19. Sandy Point State Park

The Sandy Point State Park project is a 0.25 acre site where a landscape management area was enhanced to become a forested wetland.  This site is located within the West Chesapeake Bay - Severn River area (02-13-10-02) watershed of Anne Arundel County.

This site has developed into a successful Sweetgum-dominated wetland and is open to the public.  Using the newly developed Mitigation Site Scoring Method, MDE gave this site a score of 87/100. This site provides moderate wetland functions including reducing floodwater flow, recharging the groundwater, recreational/educational qualities, and some wildlife habitat (e.g. box turtles).

This site is located within the Sandy Point State Park, and is publically accessible.  Click this link to see an aerial photo and directions.
