In December 2004, the U.S. EPA awarded the sum of $75,000 to the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) for the implementation of a project that will reduce emissions from emergency vehicles operating near sensitive populations. MDE also contributed $25,000 to give this project a total of $100,000 in funding. These funds were issued to the City of Baltimore, the City of Annapolis, MDE, and Montgomery County. These retrofits resulted in the following annual emissions reductions: 30.8 tons of CO, 3.25 tons of HC, and 0.075 tons of PM.
