MDE was proud to submit an entry among more than 300 decorated trees displayed at Timonium Fairgrounds Thanksgiving weekend. The trees will be auctioned off to benefit the Kennedy Kreiger Institute, a children’s hospital that specializes in research, treatment and education – hosting this event.

MDE’s theme for this year’s tree is “Treasure the Chesapeake” – with crab shells, mallets, oyster shells, tins of Old Bay, wildlife ornaments, wild grasses graced the tree for the holidays. MDE staff designed and decorated the tree.

“The MDE tree intends to create memories reminiscent of centuries-old Maryland traditions of enjoying seafood and our hundreds of miles of Chesapeake coastline,” said MDE secretary Kendl P. Philbrick. “It celebrates the bounty that Chesapeake living has to offer, while maintaining our mission to protect and restore the environment.”

Under the tree, net-trapped blue and silver bubbles represent seafoam and glistening water. Topped with an organically natural star.

The event was a three-day extravaganza of fairyland forests, gingerbread towns and toy train gardens, complimented by 110 craft boutiques, holiday goodies and activities for kids of all ages. It’s a worthwhile holiday event for the whole family, and the best part about it is, it boosts pride in Maryland and involves organizations throughout the state to help a worthwhile charity.
