In celebration of Earth Day, the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) will be co-hosting a celebratory educational workshop entitled “Talkin’ Trash.” This event will be Saturday, April 22 from 1 to 4 pm in the MDE auditorium located in the Montgomery Park Business Center at 1800 Washington Boulevard in Baltimore. Partnering with several community organizations, including the Washington Village/Pigtown Neighborhood Planning Council (WPNPC), the University of Maryland School of Nursing, Tri-Churches Housing, and Parks and People Foundation, the event seeks to improve the quality of life in Baltimore neighborhoods.
“The ‘Talkin’ Trash’ workshop is designed to inform, inspire and create networking opportunities for individuals and organizations that want to take pride in their neighborhoods,” stated coordinator Johanna Neumann from the University of Maryland School of Nursing.
Taking Pride – Tackling Waste
nformation sessions will focus on how the city’s curbside recycling and trash program works; who to call if there is a problem with illegal dumping; how to tackle rodent problems; and what to use as alternatives to toxic pesticides.
The workshop will also feature a separate program for children designed to celebrate environmental accomplishments within the community. Hands-on activities will stress the importance of waste reduction and inspire children to take pride in their neighborhoods.
Admission to this event is free, and food and drinks will be provided. Children will be given “Planet Protector” awards to distribute to local environmental heroes, and door prizes will be awarded.
All Baltimore City residents are welcome to attend, and reservations are encouraged by April 7.
