ANNAPOLIS, MD (February 15, 2007) – Governor Martin O’Malley announced yesterday Board of Public Works approval of a $165,000 grant for the Town of Denton’s Lockerman Street Lift Station in Caroline County. The Board is comprised of Governor O’Malley, Treasurer Nancy K. Kopp and Comptroller Peter Franchot.

“This project will benefit the general health of Denton residents and provide for a reliable, high quality drinking water supply,” said Acting Secretary Shari T. Wilson. “The state takes pride in doing what we can to meet the needs of this community’s water distribution system.”

The proposed project entails construction of a new wastewater pumping station to replace an outdated pneumatic ejector system that requires frequent repairs to prevent sewage overflows. The current pump station serving homes and an elementary school was constructed in 1950's. The pump station system technology is outdated and repairs are frequent. The proposed improvements will be a submersible grinder pump consistent with other pump stations in Denton.

“The Town of Denton appreciates the Maryland Department of the Environment funding assistance for the Lockerman Street Pump Station project,” said Town of Denton Department of Public Works Director Scott W.Getchell. “The Town is grateful for the grant funding that allows it to upgrade the wastewater infrastructure.”

The total cost of the project is nearly $331,500. Construction will begin in March and the project has an estimated July 2007 completion date.
