BALTIMORE, MD (September 21, 2006) – Governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. announced yesterday the Board of Public Works approval of a $500,000 Bay Restoration Fund grant to Talbot County for upgrades to the St. Michaels Sewer Collection System. Talbot County had previously received another $500,000 Bay Restoration Fund grant for planning and design for the St. Michaels upgrade in May of 2006. The Board is comprised of Governor Ehrlich, Treasurer Nancy K. Kopp and Comptroller William D. Schaefer.
“The funds approved today will eliminate sewer overflows to the benefit of public health and water quality in the Miles River and the Chesapeake Bay,” said Governor Ehrlich. “Safe, drinking water and updated sewage management is essential to the life and health of Marylanders. The state takes pride in keeping up with the evolving infrastructure and needs of this community’s sewer system.”
The St. Michaels Sewer Collection System upgrade involves the planning, design and upgrading of two existing wastewater-pumping stations located on Mill and Green Streets in St. Michaels, Talbot County. The work includes replacing the pumps, piping, and upgrading the electrical system.
