ANNAPOLIS, MD (February 15, 2006) – Governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. announced today’s Board of Public Works approval of a $267,750 grant to retrofit an existing stormwater management pond in the Severn Station subdivision in Anne Arundel County. The Board is comprised of Governor Ehrlich, Treasurer Nancy K. Kopp and Comptroller William D. Schaefer.

“The funds approved today will improve water quality and reduce nutrient loads to the Severn River, a significant tributary to the Chesapeake Bay,” said Governor Ehrlich.

The enhancement project will employ excavation, weir placement, micro pools and plantings to provide some treatment and control of stormwater flows from an approximately 42-acre drainage area and create a 0.84-acre wetland.

“I wish to thank the Governor and the Board of Public Works for this grant,” said County Executive Janet S. Owens. “These funds give Anne Arundel County yet another opportunity to help restore a tributary of the Chesapeake Bay.”

The total cost of the project is $267,750 of which $130,580 is the local share. Today’s grant comes through the Maryland Department of the Environment’s Water Quality Infrastructure Program.
The project is expected to begin in March with completion in May.
