ANNAPOLIS, MD (April 21, 2005) – Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. will be at the City Dock in Annapolis on April 22 to celebrate Earth Day and to announce significant funding for projects to enhance waterfront areas of Annapolis and Cambridge. The Governor will also sign a homeland security agreement with the U.S. Coast Guard regarding enhanced waterside security. The day’s series of activities highlight the Governor’s priorities of education, public safety, environment and commerce.

Governor Ehrlich will announce $2.26 million in funding for improvements to Annapolis City Dock and the Cambridge Municipal Boat Basin

10:40 a.m.

Environmental Education Month and Earth Day Celebration
Susan Campbell Park, Annapolis City Dock

Hands-on environmental education demonstrations with students from Samuel Ogle Elementary and St. Mary’s High Schools including water quality testing, Bay indicator species, the impact of urban runoff on neighboring watersheds, urban tree canopy and bay grass plantings

U.S. Coast Guard/Natural Resources Police Homeland Security Announcement

Governor Ehrlich and U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral Sally Brice-O'Hara will announce a new memorandum of agreement that expands Natural Resources Police enforcement capabilities within the safety zones in the Chesapeake Bay near Southern Maryland. They will also announce the new Chesapeake Bay Safety and Environmental Hotline.
