ANNAPOLIS, MD (Sept. 9, 2004) – Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., yesterday announced Board of Public Works approval of a $175,000 grant to the Town of Ridgely in Caroline County to improve its wastewater collection system.

“This project will eliminate the potential for pump station overflows, sewage spills and other operational problems, ultimately benefiting the Choptank River,” Governor Ehrlich said.

The funding will finance replacement of the Sunrise Pumping Station and installation of a new emergency generator to provide a secondary source of power for the pumps.

“You have no idea of the positive impact this grant will have on the town’s finances,” Ridgely Town Manager J. Michael Downes said. “I thank you for the time and effort expended to secure the grant for this very worthwhile project. It’s a pleasure to work once again in the preservation and protection of our waterways.”

The total cost of the project is more than $279,000, with the balance coming from the State Revolving Loan Fund administered by the Maryland Department of the Environment.

The project is expected to be complete later this fall. Ridgely’s wastewater system serves 250.
