ANNAPOLIS, MD (Sept. 9, 2004) – Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., yesterday announced Board of Public Works approval of a $350,000 grant to the Town of Accident in Allegany County to improve its wastewater collection system.
“Despite previous improvements, the town continues to experience bypasses and effluent violations during wet weather events,” Governor Ehrlich said. “Once complete, these improvement will bring the town’s wastewater treatment plant and collection system into compliance with regulations.”
The funding will finance repairs and /or replacement of sewer lines and treatment facilities upgrades to eliminate excessive inflow and infiltration into the system.
“The town could have never afforded this critically needed wastewater system rehabilitation project without state and federal funding,” Accident Mayor Richard Carlson said when told of the grant award.
Total cost of the project is more than $2.9 million, with the balance coming from a previously awarded $150,000 state grant, a community development block grant and a combination of federal grant and loan dollars.
The project is expected to begin in October and is expected to be complete in November 2007. Accident’s wastewater system serves 370.
