ANNAPOLIS, MD (June 2, 2004) – Maryland Governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. is pleased to announce the appointment of Jonas A. Jacobson as Deputy Secretary of the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE).
Jacobson comes to the position from the agency’s Waste Management Administration where he served as director. The appointment is effective immediately.
Jacobson brings a unique perspective to the agency stemming from his private sector responsibilities and litigation work. This experience is sure to assist the department in developing meaningful environmental policy.
Jacobson brings 14 years of extensive experience to the job having worked on environmental issues and in government relations. From 2001 to 2003, he was an attorney at Gordon Feinblatt representing businesses on environmental, energy, and governmental relations matters. He was also the Senior Government Relations Representative for Constellation Energy Group from 1998 to 2001 where he had responsibility for all environmental legislation. He previously worked as MDE’s Legislative Liaison from 1990 to 1997.
Jacobson earned his Juris Doctorate, Cum Laude, from the University of Baltimore in 2000 and his bachelor’s degree from Towson University in 1990.
He resides in Columbia with his wife Gabrielle and two children.
