BALTIMORE, MD (April 30, 2004) – The third meeting of the Water Security and Wastewater Systems Advisory Council /Interagency Technical Assistance Committee on Wastewater Treatment Systems will take place Tuesday, May 4 in the Terra Conference Room at the Maryland Department of the Environment Headquarters, located at 1800 Washington Blvd.
The Water Security and Wastewater Systems Advisory Council will meet from 10 a.m. to Noon and focus on matters relating to the security of water and wastewater facilities, chlorine and alternative disinfections and new technologies.
The Interagency Technical Assistance Committee will meet from 1-3 p.m. and focus on technical assistance to small and medium communities, user rates, public education, infrastructure needs and costs, and water and sewer planning.
This third meeting will include reports from various subcommittees, future meeting dates, times and locations, and a continued general discussion of how to efficiently address the broad mandates of the groups.
The purpose of the two groups is to:
- Evaluate new technologies for water security;
- Evaluate chlorine disinfection and alternatives to chlorine disinfection in water and wastewater systems;
- Provide technical assistance and educational outreach and to look at user rates, water and sewer planning, project ranking systems, wastewater capital needs, operational efficiency and financial management for wastewater systems; and
- Review water quality regulations and criteria.
The groups were created by action of the Maryland General Assembly during the 2002 legislative session.
