ANNAPOLIS, MD (April 21, 2004) – Governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. today announced Board of Public Works approval of a $225,000 grant for the City of Brunswick in Frederick County to end erosion of a local stream.

“This project will not only eliminate current public safety hazards but will prevent future stream bank erosion and reduce sedimentation downstream, improving local water quality in the Potomac River basin,” said Governor Ehrlich.

The project will restore stream banks near the B Street box culvert. New culvert piping will be installed north of B Street to east of Second Avenue. Imbricated riprap will also be placed along the banks to prevent sediment deposits and the stream’s flow from undercutting the base of the retaining wall at Second Avenue.

“The city and its residents are grateful for the continued cooperative effort and support from the state,” said Brunswick City Administrator David Dunn.

Total cost of the project that is scheduled to get underway in June is $558,750. State funding for the effort comes the Maryland Department of the Environment’s Water Quality Infrastructure Program. The remainder of the funding will come from the city.
