BALTIMORE, MD (March 5, 2004) – The first meetings of the Water Security & Sewerage Systems Advisory Council and the Interagency Technical Assistance Committee on Wastewater Treatment Systems will take place Tuesday, March 9 from 10 a.m. to Noon in the Terra Conference Room at the Maryland Department of the Environment’s Headquarters, located at 1800 Washington Boulevard in Baltimore. The purpose of the two groups is to:

  • Evaluate new technologies for water security;
  • Evaluate chlorine disinfection and alternatives to chlorine disinfection in water and wastewater systems;
  • Provide technical assistance and educational outreach and to look at user rates, water and sewer planning, project ranking systems, wastewater capital needs, operational efficiency and financial management for wastewater systems; and
  • Review water quality regulations and criteria.

The first meeting will focus on the purpose and organization of the groups, future meeting dates, times and locations, and a general discussion of how to efficiently address the broad mandates of the groups.
The groups were created by action of the Maryland General Assembly during the 2002 legislative session.
