Press Release

BALTIMORE, MD (JULY 25, 2002) – The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) will hold an informational meeting followed by a public hearing July 29 at 6 p.m. at the Talbot County Free Library, located at 100 W. Dover St., Easton, regarding an application from Talbot County to renew an existing groundwater discharge permit.

The State of Maryland is seeking public comment on the tentative determination to renew a groundwater discharge permit for the closed rubble cell at the Talbot County Regional Landfill.

If renewed, Talbot County’s state groundwater discharge permit would allow monitoring of rainwater percolating through the closed rubble cell floor at the Midshore Regional Landfill.

The proposed permit also allows MDE to set and maintain requirements for the continued monitoring of groundwater quality at the landfill and does not authorize an expansion or other change to the facility.

For more information on Talbot County’s application to renew their groundwater discharge permit, contact Gail Castleman or Kassa Kebede, both of MDE’s Waste Management Administration, at (410) 631-3314 or (410) 631-3375.
