ANNAPOLIS, MD (November 10, 1998) -- A project to finance the emergency replacement of a portion of the Main Street sewer in the Town of Trappe, Talbot County, received Board of Public Works approval today for a $56,000 grant.

"Improvements to infrastructure of our older communities is one of Maryland's top priorities," said Governor Parris N. Glendening. "Replacing this deteriorating pipe prevented potential harm to public health and the environment and service interruption to Trappe customers."

In addition to this State grant, the project received a $29,000 grant from the State Highway Administration and a $60,000 contribution from the Town of Trappe. Construction began in July and was completed in September.

"I want to thank the State of Maryland for the $56,000 grant," said Edgar N. Harrison, President of the Town of Trappe Commissioners. "The repair was done expeditiously with minimum disturbance to the residences, and didn't delay the overall street project."

Chaired by Governor Glendening, the Board of Public Works also is comprised of Comptroller Robert L. Swann and Treasurer Richard N. Dixon. The Board is empowered by the General Assembly to approve construction and consultant contracts, equipment purchases, property transactions and other procurement actions.
