Governor’s Press Release

ANNAPOLIS, MD (February 10, 1999) – A project to construct a stormwater drainage system along Holy Rons Road in the Town of Snow Hill today received Board of Public Works approval for a $45,000 grant.

"The construction of this system will prevent flooding of existing homes on Bay Street, and also improve the water quality of the Pocomoke River by reducing sediment pollution," said Governor Parris N. Glendening. "This improvement in an existing developed area is in keeping with our Smart Growth initiatives to target funding to existing developed areas."

In addition to the State grant, the town is contributing $15,000. Construction is expected to begin in June 1999 and be completed by September 1999.

"I am proud to be part of the team that worked to move this project along in a manner that was as expeditious as possible," said Delegate Bennett Bozman.

Chaired by Governor Glendening, the Board of Public Works also is comprised of Comptroller William Donald Schaefer and Treasurer Richard N. Dixon. The Board is empowered by the General Assembly to approve major construction and consultant contracts, equipment purchases, property transactions and other procurement actions.
