BALTIMORE, MD (June 28, 2000) -- In an effort to keep citizens in south Baltimore appraised of activities related to the Heath St.-Clarkson warehouse, representatives of the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and the City of Baltimore will meet with residents on June 29, at 6:30 p.m. at Thomas Johnson Elementary School, 100 East Heath Street.
Officials from MDE and the City of Baltimore will be present to inform the community of recent events and answer questions.
The current environmental status of the site and future plans will be part of the discussion.
On May 19, MDE emergency response crews and city fire department units were dispatched to the warehouse to assist in the stabilization of hazardous waste in the building and was leaking. Subsequent investigations of the incident have led to the issuance of a site complaint for the facility, clean-up and removal of the leaking material, air and soil sampling and the removal of asbestos-laden debris from the site.
