CATONSVILLE, MD (November 7, 2001) -- The Governor’s Sewerage Task Force on Upgrading Sewerage Systems, in conjunction with the Maryland Department of Environment, is holding a public informational meeting regarding the state’s sewerage infrastructure needs on November 28, from 7-9 p.m. in Catonsville. The meeting will be held at the University of Maryland Baltimore County’s University Center Ballroom Lounge, which is located on the third floor of the building just off Hilltop Circle and Administration Drive on the campus.

Overflows from outdated sanitary sewerage systems have discharged millions of gallons of raw sewage into Maryland waters affecting the vitality of the Chesapeake Bay as a whole

The purpose of the meeting is to inform the public about the task force’s efforts to identify statewide sewage collection and treatment system needs and options to increase the availability of local, state, and federal funding sources to pay for needed improvements over the next 10 to 20 years. After a brief presentation of the task force’s findings, public comments and questions will be received. Public comments will be considered in developing the task force’s report, which is due to Governor Parris N. Glendening in December.

Earlier this year Governor Glendening appointed the 21-member body under Executive Order and tasked them with addressing the issues and costs associated with separating and upgrading combined sewerage systems in the state and installing additional nutrient removal technology at wastewater treatment plants that have or will have biological nutrient removal equipment.
