The Maryland Department of the Environment’s Wetlands and Waterways Program has launched an online method for the public to schedule a meeting prior to formal application for a wetlands or waterways permit. This action is part of the Department’s efforts to improve customer service in processing wetlands and waterways permit applications.
Experience shows that the submission of a complete and accurate application results in an expeditious review of a project, while an incomplete application often results in processing delays and may result in a returned, unprocessed application. A pre-application meeting with a project manager who is familiar with a specific geographic area and is knowledgeable about the regulatory process will identify informational requirements and mitigate potential pitfalls in the application process.
Submitting the information requested on the online Pre-Application Meeting Request Form will help determine the level of complexity for review and the time required for the permit to be issued. This information also enables the Department to provide applicants with an estimate of the costs, including application, processing, and impact fees, as required.
To schedule a pre-application meeting for proposed activities in tidal wetlands, nontidal wetlands, nontidal wetlands buffer, or nontidal waterways, including the 100-year nontidal floodplain, complete and submit the Pre-Application form. A Resource Planner will contact you within five business days to arrange an appointment.
Those with no Internet access can contact the Wetlands and Waterways Program at 410-537-3745 for assistance.
