The Maryland Department of the Environment’s 2005 edition of the Business Guide to Environmental Permits and Approvals is here! Available this month, this useful guide provides information on the various permits, approvals, licenses, and registrations issued by the agency. These permits and approvals cover businesses of all types and sizes, from drycleaners to landfills, to power plants and individual licenses. Since the last edition was published in 2003, changes to these permits, particularly department contacts, have all been updated. MDE also added two new permit fact sheets; one, for underground storage tank (UST) removal/abandonment notification and the other, to notify MDE of removed or abandoned Underground Storage Tanks (USTs), and to register USTs.
The information for each permit type is organized as follows:
- Purpose
- Legal authority
- Application process
- Term of permit
- Fee
- Department contact
The sections concisely explain who needs the permit and why, how
to get the permit, how much it costs and how long it lasts. Businesses can use
this information to help determine permit requirements. In addition to
individual permit contacts, businesses and individuals can call the department’s
Customer Service Center at (410) 537-3772 for permitting assistance.
The guide will be distributed to libraries throughout the state.
Copies will also be sent to the Maryland Small Business Development Center
Network’s statewide locations, economic development agencies, and other business
assistance providers. MDE will post the guide on its web site for download and
access at any time. Contact Andrew Gosden at (410) 537-4158 or
Andrew.Gosden@maryland.gov for
more information.
