ANNAPOLIS, MD (May 13, 1998) -- A project to construct a new community water supply system that will include wells, treatment plant and elevated water storage tank for the Town of Henderson in Caroline County will receive additional financial assistance thanks to Board of Public Works approval today of a $60,000 grant.
"Upon completion, this project will provide the residents of Henderson with a safe and reliable water system, as well as improve fire fighting capability," said Governor Parris N. Glendening.
In addition to this grant, Maryland previously has contributed $500,000 in financial assistance. The project also has received $382,000 in federal grants and loans and $5,000 from the town. Construction began in August 1996 and is expected to be complete this month.
"I would like to thank the members of the Board for their approval of this grant," said Henderson Mayor Sandy Cook. "The project is greatly needed."
Chaired by Governor Glendening, the Board of Public Works also is comprised of Comptroller Louis L. Goldstein and Treasurer Richard N. Dixon. The Board is empowered by the General Assembly to approve construction and consulting contracts, equipment purchases, property transaction and other procurement actions.
