As part of their Refuse Disposal Permit requirements, all permitted solid waste acceptance facilities are required to provide an annual report identifying the amount of solid waste managed for the following solid waste categories:
Additionally, jurisdictions where the solid waste originated, including out-of-state jurisdictions, as well as the amount of solid waste transferred outside of the State for disposal are required to be identifies.
Permitted facilities are also required to report how the solid waste was managed by identifying one or more of the following activities:
Solid Waste Annual Tonnage Report
MDE has developed the Annual Solid Waste Tonnage Report to standardize the collection of the aforementioned data. The form instructions are included in the workbook.
The quantity of solid waste managed must be reported in units of short tons (1 ton = 2000 pounds). These reports, one for each Refuse Disposal Permit, are due to MDE on or before March 1 of every year or as specified in the facility's Refuse Disposal Permit and shall be mailed to MDE at the following address:

The data collected from the facilities cover the previous calendar year's activities. This data as well as data from other sources, mainly recycling, are summarized in the Solid Waste Managed in Maryland annual reports in accordance with the requirements of § 9-204 of the Environment Article, Annotated Code of Maryland, Chapter 555 of the Acts of 1998. The Solid Waste Managed annual report is finalized in September of every year.
The annual "Solid Waste Managed in Maryland" reports submitted to the Maryland Legislature are available for viewing or printing.
