Final TMDLs Approved by EPA: Church Creek, Little Choptank River

Church Creek is situated approximately 16 km upriver from the mouth of the Little Choptank River along its southwest shoreline. Little Choptank River is located on Maryland’s eastern shore and is about 19.2 km long.  Shellfish waters in the Little Choptank River extend from its headwaters to the mouth of the river where it discharges into the Chesapeake Bay.

The Little Choptank River (basin number 02130402) was identified on the 1996 303(d) list submitted to the EPA by MDE as being impaired by nutrients and fecal coliform in the tidal portions. On the draft 2004 303(d) List, Church Creek was identified as restricted shellfish harvesting area. The document available below establishes TMDLs of fecal coliform in Church Creek within the Little Choptank River basin.  The nutrient impairments within the Little Choptank River basin will be addressed at a future date.
