All of us who live in the Chesapeake Bay watershed are linked to the Bay by many pathways. Whether we live right on the water or miles from the Chesapeake, our actions have a profound effect on the Bay.
Maryland has made great progress in working toward restoring the Chesapeake Bay to its former glory. Through the Phase II Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP), MDE is working together with other State agencies, federal and local governments, non-profits and Marylanders to help find cost-effective solutions for WIP compliance to ensure that the Chesapeake Bay is fully restored to a healthy and pollution-free resource for generations of Marylanders to enjoy.
Many factors contribute to the degradation of our waterways. The goal of the Reclaim the Bay campaign is simple. Through outreach and education we will work to communicate our successes and encourage more Marylanders to get involved in restoring the Bay. Simple activities such as recycling, stormwater management in our backyards and relying less on our personal vehicles to get around are just a few examples of easy changes everyone can make.
Bay restoration is a work in progress that will take the cooperation of government and citizens to fully achieve by our 2025 goal. Learn what you can do to help restore the Bay. Please help us in our efforts to reclaim the Chesapeake Bay.
