Introduction

This site includes 12 acres forested nontidal wetland creation/restoration, 1 acre enhancement of farmed wetland to forested nontidal wetland, and 2.8 acres forested wetland buffer restoration, located in the Miles River watershed (02130502) watershed of Talbot County.

Construction

Maryland Department of the Environment, in conjunction with the Chesapeake Bay Trust, the contractor and the landowner, restored this wetland through grading and planting in spring/summer 2020.  The site was previously agriculture with minor drainage ditches. Construction included plugging/filling these ditches, grading to reduce slopes, and creating micro and macro topography.  This site is protected in perpetuity through a conservation easement with Eastern Shore Land Conservancy.
