eMDE is a quarterly publication of the Maryland Department of the Environment. It covers articles on current environmental issues and events in the state. 

Waste diversion rates in Maryland have remained around 40 percent since 2006. House Bill 929, passed this year, sets a statewide goal to increase waste diversion rates to 60 percent by 2020 through the expansion of recycling programs and the introduction of composting for food and yard wastes.
