Rainy day ideas: MDE’s Clean Water Innovations Trade Show July 13

By Virginia Kearney, Water Management Administration

Back to this issue's cover page

Maryland businesses, here’s a chance to showcase your inventive approaches to protecting the Chesapeake Bay from polluted stormwater runoff.

The Maryland Department of the Environment will hold its first Clean Water Innovations Trade Show July 13 in Baltimore.

Businesses and consultants can exhibit green products and services to plan and implement environmentally sensitive site designs. Government agencies, consultants, developers, and the building industry can learn more about the latest best management practices in stormwater managementwetland creation and restoration, and other green technologies.

Stormwater runoff is the fastest-growing source of water pollution in the Chesapeake Bay. Rain can wash nutrients into streams and rivers and, ultimately, the Bay, where they fuel the growth of excess algae and can cause oxygen-deprived “dead zones.” The trade show promises to be informative for both those with ideas and products to offer and those faced with the challenge of improving water quality in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

The trade show reflects Governor Martin O’Malley’s commitment to Green Jobs and the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay. For more information on the O’Malley-Brown Administration’s environmental priorities go to Maryland’s Smart, Green & Growing website.

The trade show is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 13 at MDE’s headquarters at Montgomery Park, 1800 Washington Boulevard in Baltimore.
