Town of Clear Spring Sewer Collection System Upgrade Receives State Assistance

ANNAPOLIS, MD (May 5, 1999) – A project to upgrade the sewer system for the Town of Clear Spring in Washington County
received Board of Public Works approval today for a $250,082 grant.

"This project will eliminate groundwater pollution caused by breaks in the present wastewater collection system," said Governor Glendening. "The
groundwater quality will improve for approximately 200 families in surrounding homes and farms who obtain their drinking water from wells. This Smart Growth initiative will enhance the level of pollution control within this existing community."

The project involves the inspection, cleaning, repair, or replacement of sewer lines, joints, and manholes. Construction begins this month and completion is expected this October.

"Our town embraces Governor Glendening’s Smart Growth Plan," said Clear Spring Mayor Paul D. Hose,Jr. "The funding of this project will allow
us to have the capacity to accommodate Smart Growth."

Chaired by Governor Glendening, the Board of Public Works also is composed of Comptroller William Donald Schaefer and Treasurer Richard N. Dixon. The Board is empowered by the General Assembly to approve construction and consultant contracts, equipment purchases, property transactions and other procurement actions.
