The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) is hosting the 9th Annual “Rethink Recycling” Sculpture Contest. Baltimore magazine Senior Editor Suzanne Loudermilk, retired art teacher and working artist Barbara L. Cox, and MDE Director of Policy Heather Barthel will serve as judges to determine contest winners based on creativity, use of materials, and workmanship.  Sponsors donating prizes and refreshments include Constellation Energy, Giant, and the Soap and Detergent Association.

Friday, November 19, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to Noon

Sculptures will be on display start at 10:00 and the winners will announced at approximately 11:45am

What

Every year MDE celebrates America Recycles Day (ARD) by hosting the 9th Annual “Rethink Recycling” Sculpture Contest and judging ceremony. High school students from across Maryland are invited to participate by creating sculptures made of recycled and used materials. Students create highly innovative and artistic sculptures made from a variety of materials such as:  Metal, Bottles, Cans, Milk Jugs, Cardboard, Plastic Bags, Poker Chips, Tin Foil, Paper Bags, etc.
